My name is Amy Sandelman Harris and like many “women of a certain age,” at this life stage, we want to make our communities better, live a purpose-driven life, and make a real difference.
Getting started on this journey can feel overwhelming. The purpose of this blog is to help you to connect to causes and charities that will become near and dear to your heart and make the world a better place in the future.
About Me – My Background
I have been married to the same man for more than 37 years. Coming from a dysfunctional family of divorced parents, aunts, and uncles this is a major milestone for me. More surprisingly, we are each other’s best friends, and have each other’s backs even in the most devastating circumstances. We were tested recently when we lost our son due to an overdose just a few months ago. While we are filled with grief we are able to support each other during this long and sad process.
We have 2 kids and a Goldendoodle named Lola. We make family first in our lives. When we all get together there is a ton of laughter.
Lola’s personality meshes extremely well with all of ours. She is athletic, high-energy, loves to cuddle, and is humorous.
About Me – Professional Experience
Before I became an advocate, activist, and philanthropist, I was a sales exec primarily in the advertising space. I worked for world-renowned magazines and websites and it was all very glamorous. You can read all about it here.
About Me – Current State of Affairs
Now at the age of 62, I have traded in my professional life to focus on giving back. I was fortunate enough to have had a well-paying career and feel a duty to now help those in need. Below are the five charities I am most devoted to. Perhaps my blog and the non-profits I support will inspire you to get involved. Click on the images to learn more about each.
In addition to giving back, and spending time with my family I plan to see more of the world for cultural enjoyment, relaxation, and purposeful travel to help to make life better in third-world countries.
